With today’s rapid technology development, elderly benefit from devices such as the Stride Management Assist form Honda. This new walking assist prototype is aimed at those with walking trouble due to weakened leg muscles.

Mobility issues among aging elderly are one of the toughest problems faced as they age and become frail. Honda’s Stride Management Assist looks promising for elderly whom are at the beginning stages of weakened leg muscles. This device may also assist elderly whom are in rehabilitation due to hip surgery, falls or other related issues.

Gizmag notes that the “device gathers information about the user’s waking motiuons hip angle sensors” which then feeds info to a CPU which “calculates how much assistance is needed and when”

Honda’s Stride Management Assist weights less than 6 lbs and straps around the hips and thighs using a belt.
Honda also offers a heavier and more powerful Bodyweight Support Assist which weights in at 14lbs which is designed for those who need maximum assistance to walk. The user merely steps into a contraction made out of seat, frame and shoes.

The Stride Management Assist was one of the mobility products demonstrated at the 2009 Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress Event in Detroit’s Cobo Center back in April. Commercial release dates and pricing to be released soon.
